Laura

David Raskin / David Mercer

"Laura" is quite simply one of the masterpieces of Noir.  Not only boasting Gene Tierney as the heroine who comes back from the dead, Vincent Price as the worthless society layabout and Dana Andrews (he of the grim - but oh so alluring smile) as the would-be necrophiliac cop, but in Clifton Webb's Waldo Lydecker, one of Cinema's finest (and certainly camp-est) villains.  The song, written especially for the film, is a glittering jewel that revels the unattainability of the woman who can only live in a fantasy world....

Note - I hadn't included this in the original selection, but since the first thing virtually everyone I mentioned this project to said was "You ARE going to do "Laura," aren't you?" I felt churlish not to bow to popular demand.  This one is for David.
